“A bird does not sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”– Maya Angelou.

Did you know that unlike most songbirds, both male and female Northern cardinals sing? Northern Cardinals have quite the repertoire of music in their ability to sing….ornithologist have identified at least 16 different types of songs….and like the poet Maya Angelou so poignantly wrote, they sing because they have a song, which bird experts believe help to strengthen the pair’s bond.

Cardinalidae is the family of birds that encompass three different types of cardinals: Northern Cardinal, Vermillion Cardinal and the Pyrrhuloxia or desert cardinal. While the male northern cardinal is renowned for its brilliant red feathers, we believe the female is just as beautiful and was the inspiration for our one-of-a-kind Cadinalidae necklace. The sterling silver and bronze pendant features 28 carats of richly-hued Red Petrified, Opalized Wood. The two-sided, 2-inch by 1-inch pendant is suspended on an 18-inch chain and is the newest addition to Silversmith Ron’s Silverstone, Silhouette Collection.
