🍂Â Weekly Wanderings: A Little Autumn in Every Season
Sometimes the most delightful discoveries slip into our awareness, even when we aren’t looking for them.
Autumn in New England this year has been magnificent, the landscapes literally glowing with vibrant color. I’ve spent hours wandering with my camera, captivated by the rich tapestry of brilliant golds, glowing oranges, crimson reds and deep russets. It seems as if nature’s artistry has been on full display.
And I’ve reveled in every moment of it.
As the days grow shorter and the air turns cooler, the warmth of autumn’s colors can feel especially comforting.
But somewhere along the way between both photographing and painting the transformation of the landscape and then returning home, I had a poignant realization.
We’ve been living with autumn all year long.
As I looked around our home, there they were…..the same fall colors that kept inviting us outdoors. Golden hues, rich reds, greens and russets surrounded us in our furnishings, artworks and even the leaf patterns on our rugs.
Perhaps it shouldn’t have surprised me. I’ve always been drawn to the colors, textures and quiet beauty of the natural world. They have inspired my path as an artist, from jewelry and photography to watercolors….and as I now recognize, are in the spaces where we live.
And while the brilliant leaves will eventually drift to the ground, transforming our landscapes into the cool shades of winter, their colors will continue to surround me, both in my home and in the images and memories gathered in my wanderings.
Perhaps, this is one of nature’s greatest gifts. The beauty we discover doesn’t have to stay there……we can carry a little of it home to comfort and inspire us.
A little inspiration:
“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” — John Muir
“Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.” — Mary Oliver
Thank you for taking a little time out of your busy lives to wander with me. I hope these reflections encourage you to pause, look a little closer, and discover the beauty and inspiration that may be waiting right where you are.
Wishing you a week filled with moments of wonder! 🍂
In peace and wonder.
