March 5, 2022: Talismans of Hope
What is the definition of peace?
1 : freedom or a period of freedom from public disturbance or war. 2 : a quiet and calm state of mind. 3 : agreement and harmony among people. 4 : an agreement to end a war.
With the eyes of the world on the heartbreaking events in Ukraine, it can be a challenge to understand why war continues to be such a destructive force in our world. Since the beginning of written history, mankind, from world leaders and philosophers to artists, poets and musicians, has eloquently shared thoughts about the atrocities of war and the benefits and need for peace.
While we can’t fix traumatic world events, we can take comfort that each one of us, in our own way, can impact our own lives and communities with acts of care and kindness. Like pebbles tossed into a still pond, these actions send ripples of peace out into the world around us. For inspiration, we’ve gathered some powerful quotes from a wide range of sources to share, like talismans of hope, to hopefully bring a balm of healing to our war weary hearts.
We invite you to share these with others who might find them meaningful, and to share ones that resonate with you in the comments below. Thanks so much for taking the time out of your busy days to read our thoughts.
Be healthy, stay safe, seek out and spread acts of kindness.
From our hearts to yours, Wendy and Ron
