October 18, 2020: Dancing to the Music of the Season

2020 has been a tumultuous year! At its onset, I believed like a 20/20 perfect vision, it would be a wonderful one. But considering all of the natural disasters, political acrimony, emotional/social impacts of both the pandemic and racism, and resulting economic challenges, it has definitely been fraught with painful challenges.

But even with all of the turmoil and uncertainty in our modern world, there is something both inspiring and reaffirming about the annual dance of the seasons, with each one bringing its own unique choreography and music.

There is a sense of hope and certainty in the ever-evolving changes in nature with its enduring lesson, that life goes on. One only has to look back at historical events, both in society and in our own lives, to recognize that although terrible things happen, we continue like nature, to evolve and move forward.

This year, the Autumn foliage has been particularly spectacular. In a seeming denial of the darkness found in daily news events, our forests have filled the skies with a glorious panorama of breath-taking beauty.

We can’t change major events in our world, but we can choose actions that uphold and support our lives and values. We can choose acceptance, kindness and tolerance over discord. We can choose to make health a priority and make appropriate decisions. We can vote, while accepting not demeaning the choices of others…even if we don’t agree with them. Finally, we can choose to focus on the gifts in our lives, and be grateful for them rather than obsess and worry over the uncertainty.

“I hope I can be the autumn leaf, who looked at the sky and lived. And when it was time to leave, gracefully it knew life was a gift.”-Dodinksy

The glory of this season’s beauty is short, but something to savor and treasure in the coming days. Like the radiance of leaves, we can look at the bright notes in our own personal lives and dance to the songs they sing.

Here are some inspirational quotes on the gifts of Autumn. Thank you so much for reading our blog. Feel free to share this with someone who might find it meaningful. As always we welcome your thoughts in the comments below.
