The Gifts We Choose to Give

A gift consists not in what is done or given, but in the intention of the giver or doer. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Our love of family collection features one, two or three peas in a pod and can be customized with birthstones

At the closing of every show, while we are in the tedious, time consuming process of packing up, we talk about the events of the day; the people we’ve met and the stories we heard, I”ve written before jaw one of our rituals at the end of every show day, is to talk about our favorite customers. Once again, it has nothing to do with whether they even bought anything.  It’s about the connections, the shared laughter, stories, and sometimes tears which touch our hearts. We also leave with a sense of having received the precious gifts of connecting with others.

We just finished a two-day show in Meredith, New Hampshire. The stories that resonated with me this time were about gifts that were being chosen for special people. One man, shared how he and his grown up step-daughter called themselves “two peas in a pod”.  Together since she was 4, they shared birthday weeks, common interests and  had a  delightful time every time competing every time they fished. He chuckled as he told us, “she always caught the biggest one”.  His gift, a necklace with two little peas in a pod, a family tag and a heart on a infinity symbol charm cluster.

In the same spirit and necklace, a woman bought a three pea pod necklace for a close friend and co-worker who was sadly leaving the job due the company being downsized.  They called themselves three peas in a pod, and she wanted to give her friend something that symbolized their lifelong connection of being “sisters of the heart”.

My most memorable, was an older woman from Germany, wearing a gorgeous chrysocolla necklace and richly colored clothes. Ella spent a long time looking at the pieces in our Silverstone Collection, which features gemstones from around the world. She asked a lot of questions, ranging from  what was the stone, usually a confirmation of what she knew, where did it come from, and finally what about it’s energy. Apparently she has done a lot of research about the energy found in gemstones and wanted to find the appropriate and perfect gift for two granddaughters.  She chose several pendants.  I watched carefully as one at a time, she took each pendant and suspended it from her hand. Although her hand was completely still, the pendant  at first still, began to move. One stone, an azurite, went in a slow circular movement, the other Larimar and kyanite, swayed back and forth.  She explained to me, how she wanted to find one that wasn’t too strong for the granddaughter who wasn’t fully grown yet as it would overwhelm her.  It sparked my curiosity about the use of gemstones and energy work. After she made her choices, she shared the name of several books I might find useful. Ella gave me a gift of curiosity to research the stones we work with on another level.

These three stories are a small glimpse into why we love what we do and participate in shows.  During shows, the hours are grueling.  On Saturday we began at 5 a.m for set up and didn’t get home until 7 p.m. But  the gifts we are given by the connections, friendships   and stories from the heart, are why we continue to do what we do.

Good Morning Wendy, this Ella lady sounds like the lady I know yrs. ago; only she came from Austria. She lives in Meredith high up on a hill (never been to her place). She also has grandchildren. Sounds like you had a good turnout; continued success!
